The Urhobo's are the major ethnic group in Delta State. The largest ethnic group in the Niger Delta region shared with the Ijaws. Urhobo's  are Nigeria's fifth largest ethnic group. In 2023 Pan Africa Ethnicity Awareness, the  Urhobo's made up the top 20 largest ethnic group in the Africa continent.

The history of the Urhobo People can be traced back to the ancient  Igodomigodo Kingdom, dated around 40BCE. The Urhobo's constitute a massive proportion to the kingdom of Igodomigodo ruled by the Ogisos(Kings from the sky) . Ogiso or Ogie-Isio simply means Kings that ruled the kingdom of Igodomigodo , believing they got their supernatural wisdoms and authorities from the sky. And this Ogiso's practiced a system of rulership in which the government are changed overtime to people of the same common ancestors. The Urhobo's are children of the Akka descendants , while the Edo's are the descendants of Efa and Emehi. A man called Pa Idu, who was born at a place called Ogbe'n'Laka was the father of Akka , Efa and Emehi .  The Akka descendants are the Urhobo people of today which constitute a large fraction to the Nigeria population from the Niger Delta and South West regions.

In the kingdom of Igodomigodo they were 31 Ogiso's ranging from Ogiso Igodo (40BCE - 16CE) to Ogiso Owodo (1059 - 1100)AD. Ogiso Efe Isiokolo and Ogiso Agbon Isiokolo which are the 11th & 21 Ogiso's among the 31 Ogiso's are from the lineage of Akka(Urhobo). Other Ogiso's like Emose & Orhorho were assumed to be of the Urhobo ancestry.
